The Reimbursement Landscape: Canadian Hospital Reimbursement
- Québec and Saskatchewan
- In Québec and Saskatchewan provincial reviews must be completed with a benefit listing recommendation before the province will fund purchase of a new hospital product.
- Hospitals in Québec and Saskatchewan can (and do) purchase drugs not listed on the provincial benefit list but they must fund those purchases from their global institutional budget.
- Provincial guidelines outline the components of provincial hospital formulary submissions.
- Provincial hospital P&T reviews are initiated at the request of companies who file complete submissions requesting reviews be initiated.
- All other publicly funded Canadian hospitals
- Individual hospital Pharmacy and Therapeutics committees or regional health authorities establish the formulary (list of medically necessary drugs) that will be funded in their respective hospitals.
- P&T committee guidelines (and required documents) vary from hospital to hospital.
- Research has allowed us to provide a comprehensive formulary submission kit that meets or exceeds the expectation of hospital P&T committees.
- Hospital representatives require the assistance of a "sponsor" to initiate individual hospital P&T reviews.
